Blind Man 'Drives' 2012 Toyota Prius with Help from Google

Driving a new Toyota Prius isn't a difficult task for most people, but a man that has trouble driving any vehicle was recently challenged to drive the Prius. Steve Mahan is clinically blind, and he's the newest member of Google's self-driving car development project. So, what were the results of Steve's trial run? Successful, of course! The technology-heavy Prius drove Steve to several shops and made a detour through a Taco-Bell drive-thru for food.

Toyota Ramps Up Blue Springs Production

The Blue Springs, MS Toyota manufacturing facility has only been building vehicles for five months now, but that hasn't stopped the facility from quickly increasing its capacity. In fact, the plant began its second production line shift recently, and the company plans to be at complete capacity soon. When this happens, the facility will have the ability to produce about 150-thousand Toyota Corolla vehicles each year.

Japanese automaker Toyota certainly can be sneaky! The company excels at keeping its new vehicles secret, and tomorrow it will introduce a mystery sedan at the New York Auto Show. Toyota has been working hard to make certain that no one gets a glimpse of the vehicle ahead of time. For auto enthusiasts, keeping this sedan "under-wraps" until the Auto Show has created a very Christmas-like atmosphere. For our part, we can't wait to see what the new large sedan will be like!

Toyota Giving 100 Cars to 100 Nonprofits -- Less Than One Week Left to Apply

Time is running out for nonprofits to apply for Toyota's 100 Cars for Good program, which will be giving 100 cars to 100 nonprofits over the course of 100 days. Winners of these vehicles will be selected through public voting on Facebook.

 

Applications will close in less than one week - at 12:00 pm PT on Monday, March 26 or once 5,000 applications have been received, whichever comes first. Complete information is available at 100carsforgood.com.

Game-Changing Toyota FT-Bh Concept Unwrapped in Geneva

Toyota took part in the Geneva Motor Show recently, and it premiered a very interesting new concept: the super-lightweight Toyota FT-Bh concept. The FT-Bh is the newest vehicle in the brand's Hybrid Synergy Drive-powered concept line, but it takes this technology and evolves into something even more future-focused with a smaller engine and lighter curb weight. The vehicle's main goal is apparent: to be as efficient as possible by maximizing the power of a hybrid drivetrain and keeping costs low as gasoline prices continue to rise. FT-Bh stands for "Future Toyota B-Segment Hybrid."

Japanese automaker Toyota has been running its "Camry Effect" interactive online campaign for a while now. It's designed to bring the over seven million Toyota Camry owners in the U.S.- past and present- together to share their Camry stories and memories. Recently, the automaker began producing advertisement spots for the online campaign- one of which was aired during the biggest sports event of the year- the 2012 Super Bowl last Sunday.
